Horsetail is utilized for kidney and bladder stones, urinary tract complaints, wounds and burns. In traditional health, Horsetail can also be tried to help support healthy lungs, frostbite, profuse menstrual bleeding, brittle finger nails, swelling, hair loss, liquid retention, rheumatic illnesses, painful inflammation of the joints, fractures, and nasal, pulmonary, and stomach concerns. It effectiveness for these disorders has not been established.

Horsetail gets its name from the bristly appearance of its jointed stems.

Its capability to draw excess water from the body makes it practical for taking away infections and kidney stones from the urinary tract.

The plant is found in the northern hemisphere. Just stems collected in the summer are medicinal.

Horsetail is also is named Bottle-brush, Horse Willow, Paddock-pipes, Pewterwort, Scouring Rush, Shave Grass and Toadpipe.

Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea).

Iced tea brewing method (to make 1 liter/quart): Place 6 teaspoons into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste.
