This material combines polyester and rayon to form a 4-ply gauze sponge with great absorbency. Because of their construction, non-woven gauze sponges are considerably more absorbent than their cotton counterparts and feel softer to the touch. They are gentler on wounds.

The combination of materials also helps improve the strength of the gauze sponge and helps guard against gauze break down. Its non-woven construction prevents individual fibers from rubbing against each other and creating lint. Thus, these gauze sponges are lint-free and do not collect dust, which may expose wounds to infection.

Commonly used by doctors and surgeons to stop heavy bleeding during operation, gauze sponges such as this may be used when heavy absorption is required.
